New tool to increase your blog traffic

If you haven’t heard about it yet, the hottest new tool out there to promote your blog is called BlogRush. It works by using a widget on your blog and you get credit for each impression you provide. These credits are then used to show your blog posts on their network.

How well it works is yet to be seen, but it is surely getting a lot of attention. Give it a shot and try it out for yourself. You can see mine on the right sidebar.

Apple offers rebate to iPhone users

After dropping the price of the iPhone by $200 yesterday, Steve Jobs is offering $100 store credit to early adopters if they purchased their phone through Apple or AT&T.

You’re still down $100, but maybe it will ease the pain a little.

The value of waiting to buy that new gadget

Today Apple announced their updated line of iPods, including the new 16 GB iPod touch which is pretty much an iPhone without the phone part.

Anyway, speaking of the iPhone, a mere two months after its launch Apple has lowered the price of the iPhone by 1/3. That is $200 off!

I’ll bet everyone that stood in line forever to buy one is pretty pissed off. I’ve been thinking of buying one myself, and it sure looks nice now that it is $200 cheaper.

Do you participate in links requests?

There is a lot of opinions on whether you should ask other bloggers to exchange links or not. I have not personally asked any other blogger to link to me, but a couple of others have and I have obliged. For the most part my blogroll consists of bloggers that I read and I like what they are doing. One notable blog, Golbguru’s The Tao Of Making Money, I linked to for two reasons. One, he has great material. Second, he commented on several posts, which for a new blogger means a lot. Comments help drive traffic.

More established bloggers get these kinds of requests all the time because most people know that high traffic sites will not only drive traffic to your blog, but also help with Google rankings so these bloggers tend to only link to other prominent bloggers and those that they actually read.

AdesBlog has a nice article on how to write link exchange emails, but the question is, do you or have you asked for link exchanges? Do you get them and what do you do when you do get them?

Changing themes

I’ve decided to finally change my theme here. While I really liked my previous theme, I’ve decided to get a theme that was a little more SEO friendly and would allow a bit more flexibility. My new theme is the quite popular K2 theme and has a lot of options. In its out of the box form it is a bit simple, but I will be customizing it a bit as time goes on.

Should you pay off all your credit cards at once?

Recently my wife and I were both laid off. I had a small amount of credit card debt that I was slowly paying off and decided to go ahead and pay them all off at once with the severance pay that I got.

What was I thinking? Well, two things primarily. First, it wasn’t a lot of money and if we need them we can still use them. Second, if I didn’t do it now it was just be that much longer before I did and hopefully it will help my credit rating that much sooner.

The real question is, was this a good idea?

Apple posts record profits

Apple took a minor hit Tuesday and I almost got back into it having made 20% on it. Well I didn’t and today after the market closed they posted record 3rd quarter profits and in after hours trading they are at new 52 week highs. Arrgghh!!

Oh well, I still have some shares of Apple and I will benefit on those, which will push me past another 20% gain on those holdings. That is what I get for not pulling the trigger on it.

Off to find another winner though!

Priceline works great!

My wife, ever the frugal shopper, got a great rate on the Hyatt Regency in Newport Beach for our little weekend vacation. Normally the room rate was around $250 a night, but through Priceline we got the room for $90, and after taxes, fees and such it came out to about $117 total. That is a great 50% off!

All told our vacation cost us a little over $300 including the hotel, gas, food, etc. Not bad for a little weekend at the beach huh? So our piggy bank savings didn’t cover all of the expenses, it did cover almost half of it. Amazing what a little pocket change here and there can do for you.
