Weekly reading you might like!

Since I do a lot of blog reading these days, I’ve decided to do a weekly recap of what I’ve found really interesting over the course of the week and share with everyone else. I had been thinking about doing this for a little while now, and then I saw Dogberry’s post and decided to get started with my own.

Since I have more than one blog, I’ll limit this list to the obvious financially related items as well as general blogging tips and such that I come across. I might do a related thing for my other blog with a focus on poker, software development etc. I’ll try to make sure I send a trackback to everyone, because they deserve it :-)

Since I am writing this post on Thursday, this week will be a little scrambled, but going forward I’ll probably list them by the days I found them.

Without further rambling:

  • I just came across 7 Sure-Fire Headlines, and I think I’m going to have to look at more of what this blog has to offer. As a new blogger, writing the headline can be tricky. On one hand you want it to catch a potential readers eye, not be too long, but you don’t want to link-bait too much either.
  • Even though I disagree with it, this post about college is worth a look.
  • I’ve become a regular reader of JohnChow.com and this post covers his advertisement earnings over October.
  • There is always something to learn from those who have done it well, and over at ProBlogger, they do it well. This particular post talks about blog comments and how they help with SEO.

I am going to try one of those sure-fire headlines thingie sometime soon. let’s see if it works.

John Chow’s traffic rose ridiculously in the last couple of months…i am reading his blog trying to find out why. Btw, on the earnings part, check flexo’s (consumerismcommentary.com) earnings statement. I think last month or the one before that he attributes a part of his income to “internet” a.k.a advertising. I am pretty sure it’s much more than Chow’s :)

I just looked at flexo’s and it is impressive. Flexo’s looks more realistic in terms of growth compared to John’s. I think part of Johns success is that he didn’t really start from scratch as an unknown. Regardless it is nice to see what other are doing. If you haven’t seen his post on google adwords whores, check it out.

If you are interested I would also look into what Steve Pavlina at stevepavlina.com has written about his traffic and advertising rise over a year period. In particular this one and his two year mark.
